Activity Groups

Art

Art is from 10am – 2pm on Wednesday, morning tea provided, bring your own lunch, and come and meet some friendly like-minded Artists.

John Bredl is there to help and appraise (critique) if needed, and members may approach him whenever they want.  He just barks a bit but never bites.

Art Shows give the opportunity to members to show and sell their works to the community in general.

Our afternoon tea is the best.  We welcome new members and there is always someone there to help.

Mahjong

A game that is becoming more and more popular.  The Mahjong Group meets on Mondays and Thursdays at 1pm. – 3pm.

When we meet, we “Twitter the Sparrows” (shuffle the tiles).    Mahjong is played as individuals, not as partners.    You’ll learn about Winds, Dragons, Circles, Bamboos, and Characters.   Pungs, Chows, Runs and Pairs.  How to build a wall, deal and pit yourself against the hand you have been dealt.    Hence achieving Mahjong.

Even if you haven’t played Mahjong previously, our friendly group will always welcome you and “show you the ropes”.

Movies

On the last Tuesday of each month except for December we have a movie afternoon, complete with popcorn, lollies and afternoon tea with sandwiches and cake.

Screening one of the Golden Oldies, a more modern film that didn’t get the advertising it deserved, or occasionally a French comedy. Wherever possible we have subtitles for the hard of hearing, and anyone can request an old favourite which we will try to find. Tissues are on hand for sad films, but we make sure there is a good laugh to be had as well.

Please come along on the LAST TUESDAY of the month at 1pm.  Bring a friend or neighbour who may not get out much. We can guarantee good company and an entertaining afternoon.

Musical Theatre

Do you remember when Vaudeville was young, and all kinds of acts were performed in quaint theatres?  Imagine if you could step back in time and see it all again. Well, you can: Wednesdays 2pm -4pm.  We are always seeking new people to join our cast. No experience necessary, everyone is welcome.

We regularly present shows at the Centre for members, friends and the community.  We promise comedy, song, skits, jokes, poems and original ideas that are guaranteed to make you laugh your worries away.

Like to be part of the show, help backstage or just have an interest in theatre?

Photography

The Photography group meets on the 3rd Saturday at 9am.  Different members decide on the theme to give everyone an opportunity to learn from others.   From time to time we also meet off site for a photo shoot or invite a recognised photographer to give a master class.  Want to improve your photography?

Singing

If you are interested in music, song and laughter, you need to join the Singers.  A varied repertoire is our “thing” and we meet on Thursdays 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

We also entertain at other clubs, community events and at aged care centres.   Edna Stebbing, our Choir leader is most enthusiastic, and we have the talented John Annable to accompany us on the piano.

Interested in joining us?   No auditions, just the desire to sing.
