History

Established in 1961 we have become a part of the Sorrento Landscape

The Sorrento Portsea Senior Citizens Centre Inc. was established in 1961 and incorporated in 1986.   We have provided entertainment and companionship to hundreds of elderly members of the Sorrento Portsea community since then.

In 2013, with the Mornington Peninsula Shire permission, the hall we use was renamed the Sorrento Activity Centre (the Centre).

Major improvements have been made to the hall and operation of the Club. These include a refurbishment of the theatre stage and the building of an extensive external deck.  New and appropriate lighting was installed for Art Show exhibitions.  A full audio visual system was purchased and installed for theatre shows and other events.  These improvements have made the hall a far more welcoming space and conducive to the staging and hosting of a wider range of community events.

The Club has always prided itself in offering a wide range of activities to the local community.  Theatrical and other events open to members of the public are staged regularly.   In 2022 several very successful events were staged under the Shire Community Grants Programme to assist performers and artists out-of-work through the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Club continues to negotiate and engage with the Shire and its stakeholders and is committed to nurturing relationships with both ensuring the Club’s ongoing success as an integral part of our local community.
